Bug Hotels
So my first little project is something we wanted to do as part of my little girl’s Rainbow badge challenge. She was supposed to make a bug hotel out of recycled materials. We decided to reuse some baked bean cans and pieces of old wool found in the loft. The idea was super simple, to decorate the cans on the outside with the wool and then fill the inside with sticks and other natural materials for the bugs to hide in. I wanted to spray the cans to start off with to make them neat, you will soon learn that I am known to be a bit of a ‘neat freak’. Both of my girls (7 & 11) got involved and they did a great job! Once the cans were wrapped up, we decided to add some felt hanging stars to make the hotels more interesting and appealing to the bugs :-) I then attached a copper wire to each can and the girls filled them up with rolled up cardboard, sticks and bamboo .
